How to use the Reveal Original filter

In this short tutorial we will show you how the Reveal Original filter - that can be found in Building Blocks/Simple Styles can be used to give the best result.

Until now, the simplest way to bring back details in an image or painting where we used large brushes, was to blend with a softlight with a low opacity the original image. This method, easy and quick, brought back photographic elements we did not want to. As seen below.

PostworkShop 2.0 now includes the Reveal original filter which allows the painting/drawing to keep a more naturalistic effect than the previous method. Let's see how.

Load an image and apply a first, Random Painter style.

Change the brush and its properties.

That's the result we get for our settings of large brushes on only one layer.

The Reveal Original is a filter that makes sense if put ABOVE all the others. You do not need to blend the layers.

As you can see, the Reveal original filter has a few properies you are able to change to give more or less details to your painting/drawing. We increased the number of strokes and the strength. Higher the strength property is, the more the original image will be revealed. Color mode allows you to choose between a colored Original image (color mode 2) and a grayscale one (color mode 1).

THE RESULTS:

Note how the second method gives a naturalistic and not invasive result while the first one brings back too strongly the flowers'  contours.
